Q:  Tell us a little about yourself.  Where were you born?

K:  I was born in Los Angeles at UCLA Medical Center.  I grew up here in Los Angeles and graduated from Westchester High School.

Q:  What is your ethnic background?

K:  I’m a mixture of Spanish, Mexican, American Indian, Swedish, and English. 

Q:  What were you like in junior high and high school?

K:  In junior high I got the reputation as a slut even before I lost my virginity.  And I remember in junior high school some girls wrote on the wall “Keisha’s a slut!” and I said “God, how can I be a slut?  I haven’t even had sex yet!”  But , ever since I was really young I had this sexuality -  this sexual energy and people could pick up on it.  But when I was twelve and thirteen I really went through an awkward phase.  I felt kind of ugly and awkward, and I was kind of trying to grow into myself.  Then in high school, I was still a little awkward, not as awkward as I was in junior high school but I started getting more in touch with my sexuality and my ability to flirt with guys and turn them on and make them smile.  I started getting a little wild in high school.

Q:  What did you do before you started making adult movies?

K:  Before I got into the business I was actually working as a legal secretary and a phone sex girl.  I worked for this phone sex company and we also took nude pictures and sent them to the guys and signed our autographs.  It was really fun.  It was a good start, a good way to transition into the x-rated business. 

Q:  How did you get into the business?

K:  Well, I was working for the phone sex company and the owner of that company was a big supporter of the x-rated industry, and he invited a bunch of girls from the company to go down to the XRCO Awards (which is the X-Rated Critics Organization Awards) so I dressed up real sexy.  I went down and watched the show and I got a lot of offers to get in the business and about a month later I decided to give it a try.  So here I am, twenty years later!

Q:  Did you have any reservations before entering the adult industry?

K:  Before I got into the business I talked to a lot of people.  Luckily because I was working for the fantasy phone call company I had a lot of connections to people in the business—Colleen Brennan, Hyapatia Lee, and then there were a few other girls that worked for the fantasy phone call company and I got to ask them some questions.  And then there were these rumors going around like, “Oh you better be careful, you might get cast in a snuff movie!”  So I was a little concerned about that.  But I kept asking questions to people who were actually involved in the industry.  They seemed to think that I would not be cast in a snuff movie so I said, “Okay, I’ll give it a try.”

Q:  What did your family say when they found out you were in the adult industry?

K:  Well, my parents were really supportive.  My dad always said, “You always did have a mind of your own, and I know you got a good head on your shoulders.”  So he was really confident that I was doing the right thing for me, because he knew that I was very strong-willed and I was a good girl - very responsible and I didn’t get into trouble.  This was something that really felt right to me so he was very supportive of it.  And my mother was very supportive too.  She said “Honey, as long as you’re happy, I’m happy.  I love you unconditionally.”  And she still is that way today.  We are very close.

Q:  What was your first movie?

K:  My first feature movie was called Reckless Passion with Frank James and Candy Evans.  I was really relaxed, really comfortable, really excited to be on camera.  But that actually wasn’t my first time on camera.  And that’s why I wasn’t really nervous.  My very first time I was on camera, I was dating this guy when I was seventeen.  He had a video camera and big screen tv.  And he said “Let’s film ourselves!” and I said, “Okay!”   I was kind of open to anything back then.  I was just very experimental.  So he filmed us together and he filmed me by myself.  I remember the first time I saw myself on camera where he was shooting the camera between my legs and watching the big screen—and it looked so huge!  And I screamed inside, “Aggggh!”  It that was really nerve-wracking for me to see myself on camera for the first time because it was just too much for me.  I was so embarrassed.  But then another time, I went out dancing at this night club and I went home with these two guys and then we made a movie!  Then we watched it, and we shot some more!  So I actually had some on camera experience before I did my first movie.

Q:  Were you always uninhibited?

K:  I was always kind of a flirt.  Even when I was a child I loved to flirt with guys.  And then as I got older and I started growing breasts and hips I noticed that I could get a lot of good attention from it.  I remember when I was thirteen I used to roller skate down on the boardwalk and I would flash guys!  And some of them would fall off their bicycles.  It was really fun.  People would pay attention to me and I really enjoyed the attention I got from men from exhibiting my body.

Q:  Do you enjoy sex and being in the adult business?

K:  Oh I definitely enjoy sex!  And I really enjoy being in this business.  It’s been twenty years and there are just been so many opportunities.  I love sex - I love business -  I love the sex business!  There are just so many amazing opportunities that keeping opening up in this business, so there just keeps being new things to do!  I’m really enjoying myself and having a good time!

Q:  What is it like on a movie set?

K:  It depends on whether I am doing a gonzo or a feature.  If it’s a feature there tends to be a lot more crew members, a lot more lighting, and a lot more waiting around for the lighting.  If I am just shooting a gonzo, which is just more a “jump in the scene and do it” then there are usually a lot less crew people, a lot less time spent on lighting.  But everyone’s always just kind of doing their things, and I’m always running around naked, so it’s kind of fun!

Q:  Do you have to audition to be in a movie?

K:  When I first started in the business there was this agency called World Modeling.  We would go down there and take Polaroid pictures and then producers and photographers would come into the office and look through the book and say “Oh, I want to shoot her!”  or Jim would get on the phone and he would call up people and say, “Hey, I’ve got a new girl!”.  We would fill out this little form about what we would do and what we wouldn’t do – things like B/G, G/G which is Boy/Girl or Girl/Girl, “A” (anal), Inter-racial - we would have a little list of things to check off.  Then we would meet with the producers and if they liked our look they would hire us.  But there was never any casting couch.  And we didn’t audition, where they would watch us have sex before we actually did it on camera.  They would just interview us—“Hey, nice to meet you.  Okay, you look good.  We’ll see you on the set!”

Q:  Do you have rehearsals before shooting begins?

K:  No, I have never had rehearsals.  Actually, there have been a couple of features where they did want us to rehearse the dialogue.  So I have done rehearsal on dialogue only, but I have never done rehearsal on sex.  We just kind of jump right in and do it.

Q: How has porn changed since you started in the business?

K:  One of the biggest differences about the way that the porn industry is today is the internet.  It’s really amazing how the internet business has just taken off.  So, even though I am still in the business after all these years, I don’t really work for that many other people.  I mostly work for myself.  I shoot things and then I put it on the website and then all my fans can come to my website and see me!

Q:  How do guys get into the porn business?

K:  Oh, guys ask me that all the time!   Well, usually the way the guys get in the business is they get a girl who wants to do porn, and they go into an agency together and say “we work together.”   And of course the girl has to be really hot because the guy and the girl come as a packaged deal.  Then once the guy proves that he can perform on camera, then they can start working with other people and the guy gets a reputation whether he can perform or not, and if he can perform really well, he usually gets more work because there is lots of work for men.

Q:  What advice would you give to an actress getting into the business?

K:  This is a really important question because things are getting very extreme these days.  The most important thing is that you respect your boundaries.  Find out what you are comfortable with, find out what you are not comfortable with, and stick to it.  Because you know they do some wild things on camera these days.  First Amendment rights—everybody has it and they can do what they want, but I know that some of the stuff that the girls are being asked to do these days is really intense.  I’ve heard stories of girls that have gotten in and then out of the business very quickly because they get that “used and abused” feeling.  But if you get in touch with who you are, and find out what your boundaries are, don’t go beyond them.  Respect yourself and your boundaries and you’ll have the best time in this business.  If you really like doing the wild and kinky stuff there’s nothing wrong with it, absolutely, just as long as you enjoy it.  Don’t do anything you don’t enjoy.  It’s really important for your sanity.

Q:  Do you ever get recognized when you are out in public?

K:  Once in awhile I get recognized when I am out in public.  Sometimes I get recognized and I don’t even realize it.  I remember years ago I was working out in this gym and I had a trainer.  It was when I was new in the business so I was kind of hesitant about telling my trainer what business I was in.  And then when I finally told him he was like, “Oh yeah, I know.  Everybody keeps coming up to me and asking me if that’s you.”  And I was so surprised.  I’ve also had people e-mail me and say something like, “Hey, I saw you in the airport.”  And, once in awhile people actually do come up to me.  The funniest thing is that one of my friends will ask me, “do you get recognized?” and I say, “Oh you know, not that often.”  And always after that, someone will recognize me when I’m with that friend.  I had a girl friend ask me that one time, and then we were in this restaurant and a waiter came up and asked me “Are you Keisha?”  It happens occasionally but I don’t usually go out on the street looking really ultra glamorous and sexy.  I usually just run around no make up, my hair in a pony tail and a lot less glamorous.

Q:  Do you like meeting your fans?

K:  Oh I love meeting my fans!  I go to a lot of conventions.  I go to one called the Entertainment Expo which is in January in Las Vegas.  There’s Glamourcon, which is in Chicago and Los Angeles, and Erotica-LA.  So I get to meet a lot of my fans there and it’s really fun.  I take pictures with them and sign autographs.  I love getting feedback from them, and it’s really enjoyable to meet them.  Also I have a service where I meet people one-on-one so if they want to go out on a date with me they can go to my other website, www.PornStarKeisha.com and they can set up a one-on-one date where we can get together and they can get to know me personally.  It’s really great, and it’s really fun.  I just feel so appreciated and adored and I love it!

Q:  What do you do for fun?

K:  I like to roller skate, rollerblade, I like to take Pilates classes, yoga classes, I have eight cats and I love playing with my cats.  I enjoy just handing out with friends, relaxing, laying out in my backyard in my pool, and I love laying in bed and watching TV.

 
Q:  Tell us about your induction into the XRCO Hall of Fame?

K:  Last time I went to the XRCO awards it was my twentieth anniversary in the business and I was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame.  It was a real honor.  It was really fun and I had a great time.  I’m really excited to be an XRCO Hall of Famer now.

Q:  Are you following your bliss?

K:  When I got into this business, it was really great because it gave me financial freedom at a very young age, and it put me in my element.  Remember when I said I was in junior high school I got the reputation as a slut before I even had sex?  Well, I got in the business and everybody’s praising me for being so sexually open and free and wild.  It was just so delightful for me to be in an environment that was supportive of my growing sexuality and my growing need for sexual attention, and my growing need for exhibitionism.  So it’s really fun.  What’s really great is the opportunities just keep evolving in this business.  I had no idea when I first started in this business that it was going to be a twenty year plus career.  I just thought that I would do this for awhile and then I would move on to something else.  I always had a feeling that I would study psychology and become a psychologist, but I thought it would be two separate things.  But now as time has gone on, I see that I can combine everything I have learned in the x-rated business with my desire to be a psychologist, put those two together to become a PhD sex educator. Things just keep evolving in this business and I just keep having a good time!
